Chivas USA sets playoff date

Having already clinched a place in the Major League Soccer playoffs for the third year in a row, and guaranteed of finishing no worse than second in the Western Conference, Chivas USA on Thursday said its first home playoff game would be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Home Depot Center.

The two-game conference semifinal series typically begins at the home of the lower-ranked team, meaning that Chivas would probably open the playoffs on the road on the weekend of Nov. 1-2.

Its opponent has yet to be determined, since all MLS teams are still mathematically alive, but it will either be a Western Conference team or a wild-card team from the Eastern Conference.

Odds are that Chivas will be going up against Real Salt Lake, currently in third place in the West.
