USC safety Taylor Mays became a three-time All-American today when he was announced as part of the Walter Camp Football Foundation team.
The Walter Camp All-America team is selected by head coaches and sports information directors at NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision schools.
Mays, a senior from Seattle, is projected as a first-round pick in April’s NFL draft. He has a team-best 91 tackles for the Trojans, who will play Boston College in the Emerald Bowl on Dec. 26 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Mays, a consensus All-American in 2007 and 2008, is the fourth USC player to earn All-America honors three times.
Linebacker Richard Wood was honored in 1972-74, quarterback Matt Leinart in 2003-05 and offensive tackle Sam Baker in 2005-07.
Mays has 271 tackles and five interceptions in his career.
Coach Pete Carroll said Mays’ selection was a ‘great honor for a great player. He typifies the image of what an All-American should stand for -- great competitor, great player and great person.’
