Boys’ soccer: Road Trip

It’s about noon Thursday and right about now Santa Margarita is making their way to the 241 toll road. Depending on what route they chose, it will take the Eagles 125 miles, approximately 3 hours, going one way to get to Quartz Hill, site of their Southern Section Division I quarterfinals match at 3 p.m. today.

It’s a long drive. A long, long drive, but it got me thinking. What items I would take on a three-hour bus drive?

So, here are five items I would take for a (mini) road trip like this one.

1- Copy of today’s LA Times. Can you think of better reading material than The Times, and for 50 cents?

2- DVD player. If reading is not your cup of tea, than movies are what your into. I like to read and watch movies, which is why I would bring both. The movies I would bring with me would be Gladiator and the recently released American Gangster.

3- Warm clothes. According to Quartz Hill Coach John Volk the conditions for today’s game will be windy, cold and possibly rainy. There’s a 50/50 chance it will rain today. ‘The weather changes from Orange County to the desert mountains,’ Volk said. ‘Aliso Niguel (whom Quartz Hill beat, 2-0, on Tuesday) was shocked at how cold and windy it was here.’

4- Pillow. I just hate, hate, getting on a bus or an airplane and not being able to rest my eyes because I’m uncomfortable.

5- My BlackBerry, of course. If you don’t have a blackberry, take my advice, don’t get it. The phone is a lifesaver, but dangerously addicting. It’s like American Express, you can’t leave home without it.
