Baseball: Huntington Beach wins tourney title

Huntington Beach (5-0) won its division of the Newport Elks tournament with a 5-2 victory over Palm Desert. Jesse Kuet had two hits and four RBIs. Shane Grace picked up the save.
Savanna (7-0) defeated Mission Viejo, 6-2, to win another division of the Newport Elks tournament. George Avina threw a complete game.
Irvine Beckman received a terrific pitching performance from UCLA-bound James Kaprielian to defeat Mater Dei, 5-2. Kaprielian struck out 12. JSerra got three hits from Tanner Biley in a 7-6 win over Foothill.
Looking for needed pitching help, Woodland Hills El Camino Real got it from junior Owen Perry, who allowed five hits in a complete-game performance that saw the Conquistadores defeat Palisades, 4-0.
Woodland Hills Taft defeated Venice, 12-5, in a Poly tournament game. Ian Parent went three for four with five RBIs. North Hollywood defeated South East, 12-2. Jason Ruiz and Zane Weston had two hits apiece. Sophomore Raul Pacheco had nine strikeouts in Van Nuys’ 3-2 win over St. Genevieve.
Sophomore Garett King of Orange Lutheran continued his strong pitching, throwing a complete game in the Lancers’ 4-0 victory over Stockton St. Mary’s.
Tesoro and Corona Santiago finished in a 7-7 tie. Brentwood defeated Crossroads, 8-2. Aaron Fritts entered the game in the second inning on the mound, got out of a jam and pitched the rest of the way to pick up the win.
Sierra Canyon defeated Concordia, 17-2, in five innings. Aaron Landecker struck out nine in four innings. Sean Adler was three for three with three RBIs.
