A bullfrog named Melo-Hopper is the champion leaper of the 1985 Calaveras County Jumping Frog Jubilee. Melo-Hopper, owned by Lee Giudici of Los Altos, jumped a total of 20 feet, 8 1/2 inches in three jumps Sunday to beat 116 other frogs in the grand finals. The effort was short of last year’s world’s record of 21 feet, 1 1/2 inches. About 2,500 frogs were entered in the three-day annual contest at Angels Camp popularized by writer Mark Twain.
