Klan Member Guilty of Murder

MADISON, Wis. — Joseph Paul Franklin, a Ku Klux Klan and Nazi Party member already serving life terms for two racially motivated killings in Utah, was convicted today of murdering an interracial couple in a parking lot and sentenced to two more consecutive life terms.
A jury took about two hours to convict Franklin of first-degree murder in the fatal shootings of Alphonse Manning Jr., a black man, and Toni Schwenn, a white woman, at a shopping mall Aug. 7, 1977.
