The National Audubon Society said it will oppose the appointment of a former Nevada prison official as director of the troubled Western regional office of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Audubon spokesman Amos Eno said in Fresno that the conservationist group is concerned that Steve Robinson lacks the scientific background for the job. Before joining Fish and Wildlife in 1983, Robinson worked in the U.S. Energy Department. During the late 1970s, he served as finance director for the Nevada prison system. Robinson, currently congressional liaison officer for Fish and Wildlife in Washington, is among the leading candidates to replace Richard Myshak, who was reassigned to the National Park Service.
