Peter Mueller of Switzerland covered the 3,450-yard Olympia track in 1 minute 56.22 seconds to win a World Cup downhill ski race at Are, Sweden.
Mueller finished .90 of a second ahead of runner-up Michael Mair of Italy and 1.36 seconds ahead of Marc Girardelli of Luxembourg. Olympic champion Bill Johnson of Malibu was ninth, 2.07 seconds behind, for the best American finish. It was his fourth straight scoring (top 15) finish and third top-10 placing of the season.
