The National Guard has pulled out of Austin, Minn., after a 33-day peacekeeping mission at the strikebound Geo. A. Hormel & Co. plant, an exercise that cost state taxpayers $1.4 million. But pickets continued their six-month-long vigil at plant gates. About 1,500 members of Local P-9 of the United Food and Commercial Workers union walked off their jobs Aug. 17. Gov. Rudy Perpich called in the Guard on Jan. 20.
