Rusty Pelican Restaurants Expect 3rd-Quarter Loss

Because of nearly $1.3 million in one-time write-offs and other charges, Rusty Pelican Restaurants Inc. said it expects to report a loss for the third fiscal quarter that ends April 6. Top executives of the restaurant chain were not available for comment Monday.
But in a prepared statement that did not estimate the size of the anticipated loss, the Irvine-based seafood house said the red ink would be caused in part by $330,000 in deferred restaurant site development costs; $450,000 in write-offs from changes in accounting; $300,000 in write-offs and reserves for various employee benefit costs and the establishment of an unspecified reserve for possible legal costs involving a restaurant that no longer is part of the chain.
