Whittier : Green Light for Bus Shelters
The City Council has approved construction of three bus shelters at a cost of $12,900. The 5-by-15-foot shelters, the city’s first, will be on the southeast corner of Philadelphia Street and Greenleaf Avenue; the northwest corner of Philadelphia Street and Greenleaf Avenue, and at the Whittier Senior Citizens Center on Walnut Street.
City Transit Manager Linda Creed said these were the most frequently used bus stops on the city’s 22-mile line. The shelters with wooden benches and tempered glass are designed to protect bus riders from the weather, particularly rain and heat. The shelters should be finished by mid-June.
