LEATHER here and . . . there

No matter what the temperature, it’s leather weather all over the Western world.
On a recent day in Los Angeles, our photographer snapped local residents wearing leather blouses, leather shorts, leather-trimmed sweaters, leather pants and all sorts of high-style leather jackets. At about the same time, our European shutterbugs were photographing citizens on the streets of London, Paris and Milan and found an amazing amount of them were also outfitted in leather.
Why the sudden appeal of animal skin, which used to be seen primarily in shoes, belts and gloves?
Nobody knows for sure.
One leather-clad L.A. woman explained: “Leather looks tough on the hanger, but it’s very sexy when you put it on.”
Another said: “It’s not really comfortable to wear, but it looks rich in a modern way.”
And yet another said he wears leather because “hide is chic.”
