RENO — Teofilo Stevenson, winner of three Olympic Games heavyweight boxing championships, arrived here Friday night, apparently to begin the road to a fourth.
Stevenson, 35, who won gold medals at the 1972, 1976 and 1980 Olympics and who missed the 1984 Games because of the East Bloc boycott, is in Reno with a Cuban team for the World Championships of Amateur Boxing.
The 10-day tournament begins Thursday at the Reno/Sparks Convention Center. Nearly 350 boxers from all the major international amateur boxing powers will compete, including the United States, the Soviet Union, Cuba, and Italy.
