‘PUMP BOYS’ TO REOPEN AT SDSU

The Old Globe Theatre will reopen a two-week run of the rockabilly musical revue “Pump Boys and Dinettes” June 13 at the San Diego State University Theatre Main Stage.

Globe Managing Director Tom Hall said the unprecedented move was made partly because “Pump Boys” was the “largest-grossing winter show in Globe history.” It grossed just under $460,000. “We were turning away upwards of a hundred plus a day” when it closed May 4, Hall said.

“Some people talked about why we would do that show,” Hall said of its slight story line and lack of any serious thrust. “It deals with a way of life a lot of people find refreshing, the country life style and simplicity.” Hall also noted that it is the commercially viable type of show that “allows us to do three Shakespeares in the summer.”

The original cast of six singing actors and director Matt Casella will return for the run at the 500-seat theater. The show will play through June 29.

Tickets will go on sale Friday.
