Thatcher’s Popularity Plummets, Poll Shows

LONDON — Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s popularity is at its lowest point in three years, according to a Gallup poll published today.
Only 28% of voters surveyed were satisfied with Thatcher’s leadership, her lowest rating since 1983. Political observers blamed Thatcher’s tough stand against economic sanctions on South Africa and rumors of a rift with Queen Elizabeth II over that and other matters.
