MANILA — Gunmen riding in a minibus today killed an opposition town mayor who was a supporter of ousted President Ferdinand E. Marcos, the official Philippine News Agency said.
It said Jose Payumo, a member of Marcos’ New Society Movement party, was shot dead after the gunmen overtook his car on the highway in Dinalupihan in northern Bataan province.
Payumo was the second Marcos supporter killed in 24 hours. Lawyer Felizardo Lota, an organizer of loyalist rallies in Manila, was shot dead outside a hotel here last night.
It was not known whether the killings were related, but both men had received threats, police said.
