Charlie Phillips, baseball coach at Santa Ana Valley High School for the past three years, resigned Wednesday to become pitching coach at Orange Coast College.
A 1973 graduate of La Quinta High, Phillips pitched at USC and played professionally for five years in the Dodger and Angel organizations, reaching the Triple-A level with California in 1979.
He was an assistant at La Quinta for three years before accepting the Santa Ana Valley job. The Falcons went 6-19 last season and 2-19 in 1985.
Phillips, who will continue teach social studies at Valley, replaces Don Perry.
