Faria Wins Speedway’s Scratch Main Event

Mike Faria of Colton won the four-lap scratch main event of the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program Friday night in front of 7,416 at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.
For Faria, who took the lead for good in the first turn, it was his fifth win of the season at Costa Mesa, making him the winningest rider in Southern California.
John Sandona of Riche Canyon finished second, Brad Oxley of San Clemente third and Robert Pfetzing of Garden Grove fourth.
In the five-lap handicap main, Gary Hicks of Glen Avon overcame a 30-yard handicap to defeat Louis Kossuth of La Habra. Sandona finished third, Andy Northrup of Ontario fourth, Ed Castro of Ojai fifth and Tony Briggs of Dana Point sixth.
Pfetzing defeated Shawn McConnell of Brea in a four-lap match race.
Jay Gianehi of Brea was the second division winner, and Dana Dumond of Sunny Mead won the third division.
