A youth, hit by a car as he ran into the street to escape six club- and knife-wielding men, has died, police said Wednesday.
Lt. Rod Gillman said police are still investigating the death of Todd Silva, 17, of Lake Elsinore. No suspects are in custody, Gillman said.
Silva died at Fountain Valley Community Hospital at 11:25 p.m. Tuesday, three days after he was hit by a car at Newhope Street near Primrose Avenue. An autopsy is scheduled today, a coroner’s spokesman said.
According to Gillman, Silva ran into the path of the oncoming car as he fled from six men who were carrying knives, a stick and a baseball bat.
The car’s driver, who was not cited, told police that he saw several people running toward his car, tried to change lanes and could not stop when he saw Silva in front of him.
The six men are still being sought for questioning, Gillman said.
