An early morning fire at Perita’s Taco Shop in the 7800 block of Balboa Avenue caused $175,000 damage to the two-story drive-through Saturday.
About 25 San Diego firefighters and units from Clairemont and Kearny Mesa quickly extinguished the blaze, which broke out about 2:30 a.m. in the restaurant’s deep-fat fryers, according to Fire Department spokesman Larry Cook.
He said restaurant employees tried unsuccessfully to fight the fire with chemical extinguishers.
