Guerrillas loyal to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat clung to positions won in the Lebanon “war of the camps” as other factions tried to persuade them to accept a truce. A spokesman for Arafat’s mainstream Fatah faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization said the pro-Arafat fighters will not withdraw from Maghdousheh, overlooking the port of Tyre, until Amal, the Syrian-backed Shia Muslim militia, lifts its siege of Palestinian refugee camps near Tyre and promises to turn over positions to neutral forces. Amal has vowed not to let armed Palestinian guerrillas run the camps.
