SACRAMENTO — The state reported the release Wednesday of $191,720 in cleanup and abatement funds for the first year of a five-year study of pollution in San Diego Bay. The money came from a fund of the State Water Resources Control Board and was made up from penalties collected by the regional boards for violations of the state’s water quality control laws.
The report said high levels of polychlorinated biphenyls, called PCBs, have been found in the bay, as well as copper ore and organotin.
