The Paris subway returned to normal after a three-day strike, but most of the French railroad system remained paralyzed by a train engineers’ stoppage. The main union representing subway train operators, who are demanding increased pay, agreed with management to suspend the stoppage over Christmas. But other unions in the Paris transport system representing technicians and administrative staff have threatened to go on strike Dec. 30 and 31.
