A liquor store clerk firing at a fleeing would-be robber accidentally killed a man in a beauty shop across the street in the 5000 block of South Main St., Los Angeles police said. The victim was identified as James Watson, 39. Police withheld the name of the clerk who was not arrested and declined to say how the robbery was thwarted.
