The odor of diesel fumes and complaints of nausea, headaches and burning eyes prompted evacuation of 700 workers from the 10-story MacArthur Plaza Tower near John Wayne Airport, but investigators could not determine the cause.
Eight workers were taken to local hospitals complaining of symptoms similar to those of carbon monoxide poisoning. A check of the air inside the building, however, revealed carbon monoxide levels no higher than “a really smoggy day,” according to fire officials. But air quality outside was in the “very good” range.
