Hermosa Beach : Moratorium on Permits
The City Council unanimously approved a 45-day moratorium on the issuance of building permits that are not in accordance with the city general plan or zoning code.
Because the two documents contain inconsistencies, the council also directed the building department to issue permits based on the minimum-density criteria if a parcel has conflicting zoning designations. Planning Director Michael Schubach said there are 48 such parcels in the city.
The moratorium is to take effect in 45 days dating from Tuesday and does not include projects involving minor structural modifications or development in which conceptual plans have been submitted to the city. Hermosa Beach is working to bring the general plan and the zoning code into conformance as mandated by state law.
