United Artists agreed to buy 62 movie theaters.

United Artists Communications said it has an agreement in principle to acquire the theaters and some real estate for $108 million from the Litchfield Co., a limited partnership based in South Carolina. The theaters, which include 294 movie screens, are located primarily in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and Florida. With the proposed deal, UA would own and operate 2,029 movie screens in 33 states.
