Edison’s Smith MVP in Sunset League

Kristi Smith, a 6-foot 1-inch senior center at Edison High School, has been named the most valuable player in the Sunset League by a vote of the league’s girls’ basketball coaches. Smith, who transferred from Elsinore High before this season, is averaging 20.7 points and 10.5 rebounds. She has set the single-season scoring record at Edison, with 551 points going into Edison’s Southern Section 4-A quarterfinal game against Compton tonight.
Dave White, Edison coach, was named coach of the year. Edison (27-1) won the Sunset League with a 10-0 record and was ranked No. 1 in Orange County.
