Rob McCachren of Las Vegas overcame mechanical difficulties to win the SCORE Great Mojave Off-Road Race.
MacCachren, 21, was forced to change power-steering belts three times and lost his brakes completely during the 253.5-mile race over desert terrain. Driving solo in a Chenowth dune buggy, he finished in 5 hours 29 minutes 17.2 seconds.
Bob Richey of Corona and Tom Baker of Perris teamed up to finish second in a two-seat Raceco Volkswagen dune buggy.
