Mormon leaders urged followers to shun the “talk show mentality” of modern society and help restore traditional values by teaching their children honesty, chastity and marital fidelity. Ezra Taft Benson, the 87-year-old church president, told members to study the Book of Mormon, one of four books Mormons regard as scripture, and to pattern their lives after the example of Jesus Christ. He said Mormons should ignore critics who argue the Book of Mormon is not true. The sermons, delivered in the Tabernacle on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, ended the two-day 157th annual general conference of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
