COLUMBUS, Ohio — A smoky fire in a downtown high-rise apartment building for the elderly killed a 61-year old man Wednesday night, authorities said. Ten other residents were hospitalized for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The dead was identified as Robert Cornwell, who apparently fell asleep on a couch while smoking. The fire was confined to his fifth-floor apartment in the 10-story Taylor Terrace complex said Fire Chief Dan Werner. About 50 residents were evacuated.
