Esperanza Wins Right to Play Host as 2nd-Round Pairings Are Announced

Esperanza High School, the defending Southern Section 4-A baseball champion, won a coin flip Saturday and will play host to Diamond Bar Tuesday at 3:15 p.m. in the second round of the 4-A division playoffs.
Second-seeded El Dorado and Sunset League champion Ocean View also won coin flips and will be at home Tuesday. El Dorado will meet Simi Valley, and Ocean View will play host to Colton. Other second-round 4-A games are Crespi at Mater Dei, Westminster at Lakewood and Servite at Westlake.
In 3-A games, Villa Park will play host to South Hills, Brea-Olinda will play host to John W. North, Valencia will travel to Arlington and Troy will play at Corona. In 2-A games, Barstow is at Laguna Hills, La Serna is at Saddleback, La Quinta will travel to Indio and Capistrano Valley will play host to Tustin. Walden will travel to Lone Pine for a Small Schools division game.
In second-round 4-A softball games Tuesday, Downey is at Cypress, Kennedy is at Marina, Buena is at Los Alamitos and Gahr is at Ocean View. Connelly plays host to Paraclete in a 1-A game.
In the 3-A and 2-A second-round games scheduled for Wednesday, Valencia is at Glendora, Garden Grove is at Foothill, Santa Ana is at Buena Park and Sunny Hills is at Los Amigos in 3-A, and Woodbridge is at Mission Viejo and Laguna Hills is at Whittier in 2-A.
