Chapman College in Orange held its commencement exercises at the campus Sunken Lawn, in front of Memorial Hall. The college also held the traditional “re-graduation” of its class of 50 years ago.
Degrees: 370 bachelor’s and 188 master’s degrees.
Speakers: Dr. Alexander W. Astin, professor of higher education at UCLA, delivered the commencement address. The Rev. Alvin O’Neal, senior pastor of the Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church of Memphis, Tenn., delivered the baccalaureate address, titled “Finding the Margin of Freedom.”
Honorary Degrees:
Dr. Alexander W. Astin, doctor of laws.
His Eminence Archbishop Iakovos, primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in the Americas, doctor of humane letters.
