HAMTRAMCK, Mich. — Most of the 20 new flagpoles put up by the city at a cost of $50,000 will be bare today on Flag Day because there is not enough money to buy flags for them.
Mayor Robert Kozaren said the Detroit enclave owns just four American flags, which will be used today, but the other 16 poles will be bare.
“I wish some of the people concerned would donate one, and that would be nice,” Kozaren said.
The flagpoles cost $50,000 to put up, and the flags go for $200 apiece, City Clerk Robert Zwolak said.
“You know, ordering American flags is easy, but paying for them is hard,” he said.
