The co-producer of “My Dinner With Andre,” who turned down a $2-million divorce settlement, has been awarded $7 million in a New York decision lawyers say could break new legal ground. Beverly Karp, a movie producer, received the award, which could be the largest ever granted in a state without community property laws, according to attorneys on both sides. Karp during their 31-year marriage was listed at $20 million; they moved to New York from California, a community property state, in 1968. He entered a law practice; she went on to become a magazine writer and a co-producer of “My Dinner With Andre.” However, Sheresky said the husband financially supported his wife and two sons, now 28 and 23, during the marriage.
