Mary Beth Whitehead, who tried to keep a baby she bore under a surrogate contract, cannot have unsupervised weekend visits with the child while she appeals a ruling that stripped her of her parental rights, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled. She had asked that her once-weekly, two-hour supervised visits with Baby M be expanded. Whitehead, 30, lost a custody battle for the child, now known as Melissa Stern, in March, when a judge ruled that the contract she signed with William and Elizabeth Stern was valid.
