Ropak Corp., the Fullerton maker of reusable plastic containers, said its net earnings jumped to $772,000 for the second quarter, up 17% from $661,000 in the same period last year. Sales of $20.2 million were 49% higher than last year’s $13.6 million.
For the first half of the year, however, net earnings fell by 24% to $646,000 from $847,000 last year, even though total revenues for the period jumped by 49% to $32.6 million from $21.8 million.
Although its sales and market share were stronger, the company said the costs associated with its unsuccessful takeover bid of Buckhorn Inc. earlier this year bit into overall profits.
