Hewlett-Packard Co. and Sony Corp. of Japan have agreed to jointly develop digital audio tape technology. DAT’s characteristics provide for excellent high-fidelity sound comparable to compact discs. Since audio is recorded digitally in a similar way to computer information, DAT technology is readily adaptable for use in data-storage devices, according to Palo Alto-based HP, which expects to ship products by late 1988.
