Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in a Tehran speech, predicted that Saudi Arabia’s ruling monarchy will fall from power because of the bloody riots in Mecca on July 31. The 87-year-old patriarch, appearing in public for the second time since the violence in the Saudi holy city, added: “Who are these people who have been given the honor of looking after the holy places? Muslims worldwide will not keep quiet.” Meanwhile, the official Islamic Republic News Agency quoted a West German doctor who performed autopsies on four Iranian riot victims as saying that some died from bullet wounds. Tehran says Saudi police attacked pilgrims with automatic weapons; Saudi Arabia denies the charge.
