3 More Carriers Plan New San Diego Flights

Hoping to tap into the steady increase in passenger traffic at San Diego’s Lindbergh Field, three commercial air carriers have announced plans to begin new flights out of San Diego.
Skiers will be interested to hear that Las Vegas-based Royal West Airlines will begin service from San Diego to Mammoth Lakes on Dec. 6. A daily flight will leave San Diego at 3 p.m. and arrive at Mammoth at 4:15 p.m.
Return service will depart Mammoth at 8:45 a.m. and arrive at San Diego at 10 a.m. The flights will run only during ski season, and there will be none on Saturdays.
Piedmont Airlines announced Monday that it will begin daily service between San Diego and two of its Eastern hubs on Dec. 8.
One Piedmont flight will depart San Diego at 12:55 p.m. and arrive in Charlotte, N.C., at 9:04 p.m. EST. There will be an intermediate stop in Phoenix. A return flight will originate in Raleigh, N.C., at 7:45 a.m. EST and arrive in San Diego at 11:59 a.m., via Charlotte and Phoenix.
Piedmont will also provide service between San Diego and Dayton. A daily flight will leave San Diego at 1:05 p.m. and arrive in Dayton at 9:25 p.m. EST, via Los Angeles. A return flight will leave Dayton at 8:26 a.m. and arrive in San Diego at 11:59 a.m., via Los Angeles.
Finally, Pan American World Airways will begin operating four flights a day between San Diego and Los Angeles beginning Nov. 1. The flights are designed to provide direct connections for San Diegans flying Pan Am to 26 international destinations including London, Frankfurt and Santiago.
The new Pan Am flights will depart San Diego for Los Angeles at 9:15 a.m., 12:25 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Departures from Los Angeles for San Diego will leave at 7:15 a.m., 11 a.m., 2:35 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. Flight time is 35 minutes.
