The proprietor of a South-Central Los Angeles auto repair shop and his girlfriend were arrested Tuesday by California Highway Patrol officers on charges of operating a fake-accident ring that bilked insurance companies of at least $250,000.
The CHP said Curtis Connor, 53, and Loraine Outlaw, 34, were taken into custody at the Auto Service Body Shop, 8311 S. Vermont Ave., after investigators concluded they were involved in more than a dozen questionable accidents.
One car, a 1983 Chrysler, allegedly was in four staged accidents between March and December, 1986, with a total of $96,000 collected from four insurance companies.
