Groundbreaking for a $2.9-million police station for the northeastern area of San Diego will be held at 11 a.m. today at 13396 Salmon River Road in Rancho Penasquitos. Councilwoman Abbe Wolfsheimer and Police Chief Bill Kolender will attend the ceremonies for the new building.
The headquarters for the area has been operating at the site since January, 1981, out of temporary trailers. The new building will have 16,000 square feet of office space and an adjacent 5,000-square-foot light-vehicle maintenance building.
The station will be able to house 200 officers and support personnel but will be staffed initially with 65 officers. Completion is scheduled by January, 1989.
