The St. Louis Cardinals were not the only losers in the first two World Series games. ABC’s telecasts of those games took a beating in the Nielsen ratings.

According to the A.C. Nielsen Co., the average ratings for the two opening games show this year’s series down 14% from last year.

The opening game between the Minnesota Twins and the Cardinals on Saturday night was the lowest-rated prime-time World Series game ever, with a 19.2 rating and a 35 share. The previous low was the 1984 opening game in the Detroit Tigers-San Diego Padres series on NBC, with a 21.5 and a 35 share.
