John McEnroe, serving a 60-day suspension from official tournaments for misconduct, said he expects to retire from tennis in two years.
“Within two years, I won’t be playing on the circuit,” McEnroe, 28, said at a news conference before an exhibition in Florence, Italy. “Right now, my objective is to return to the level of 1984. I want to be No. 1 again.”
McEnroe, ranked No. 11 in the world, was suspended from Nabisco Grand Prix events as punishment for an obscene outburst against an umpire at the U.S. Open.
