The top men in college tennis will play in the Volvo Collegiate Championships today through Sunday at the L.A. Tennis Center on the UCLA campus.
Andrew Sznajder of Pepperdine, two-time national Canadian champion, is the top-seeded player. Other seeded players in the 32-man draw include Byron Talbot of Tennessee, No. 2; Shelby Cannon of Tennessee, No. 3; Dan Goldberg of Michigan, No. 4, and Miami’s Johan Donar, No. 5.
The two wild-card entrants are freshmen Al Parker of Georgia and David Wheaton of Stanford, both of whom recorded impressive junior credentials. Wheaton won the U.S. Open junior singles title in September.
Patrick McEnroe, Stanford’s top player last year, withdrew because of injuries and will be replaced in the draw by UC Irvine’s Trevor Kronemann.
First-round action will begin at 10 a.m.
