Seven suspected Kurdish guerrillas and two Turkish soldiers were reported killed in clashes near the Syrian border. The Anatolia news agency said five Kurds and two soldiers were killed when guerrillas who had allegedly set fire to a gas station refused to surrender after being surrounded. Two Kurds who had fled were killed when soldiers caught them in a cave. Soldiers seized seven Soviet-made assault rifles, one rocket launcher, ammunition and hand grenades, Anatolia said.
