Obituaries : James F. Mead; Biological Chemist

James F. Mead, professor emeritus of biological chemistry and former associate director of the Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Biology at UCLA, has died at his Pacific Palisades home of leukemia.
He was 70 and died Nov. 30. Mead had taught at UCLA for nearly 40 years when he retired in 1984.
A 1980 research winner of the American Oil Chemists Society’s annual award, Mead was a specialist in lipid biochemistry and studied at Caltech before moving to UCLA.
Survivors include his wife, Denney, two daughters, a son and six grandchildren.
