About 1,800 gallons of sewage from a clogged sewer spilled into the ocean in La Jolla Thursday, County Health Services spokesman Lyn Wallis said.
The spill occured around noon in the 2500 block of Torrey Pines Road when a sewer clogged by roots overflowed from through a manhole, Wallis said.
The spill ran into the ocean from a storm drain at the end of Avenida de la Playa. The spill was contained an hour later.
Quarantine signs were posted along the beach 100 feet in each direction of the drain until tests can prove the water quality is safe, Wallis said.
