Problem of Illiterate Father Focus of ‘Afterschool Special’

An upcoming “ABC Afterschool Special” will tell the story of a functionally illiterate man whose daughter forces him to come to grips with the problem.
Edward Albert stars as the illiterate father and Cheryl Arrut is his teen-age daughter in “Daddy Can’t Read,” which has completed production and is slated to air in the spring.
The program is part of Project Literacy U.S. (PLUS), a nationwide campaign launched by Capital Cities / ABC Inc., and the Public Broadcasting Service to combat illiteracy.
