Obituaries : Memorial Services Set for Mono Lake Activists

Outdoor memorial services for David Gaines, 40, and Don Oberlin, 28, will be held on the shores of Mono Lake near the South Tufa Grove at 1 p.m. Saturday.
The two men were killed Jan. 11 in an auto accident on U.S. 395 in Mono County. Gaines, married and the father of two young children, was chairman and founder of the Mono Lake Committee, a nonprofit group dedicated to protecting the lake’s environment. He was a resident of Lee Vining. Oberlin, 28, of Buena Park, worked for the committee.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mono Lake Committee or the Mono Lake Foundation for the support of the group’s Mono Lake Visitor’s Center in Lee Vining.
